Capturing Life through Images

I have always had a love for photography! I have never been camera-shy, even from a young age I was asking for people to take pictures of me. Since I was about 9 years old I  started to enjoy not only being in pictures but taking pictures as well. My mom trusted me with her camera because she enjoyed the perspective I was able to find. I took a photography class in High School, I learned more about how to work with my little point and shoot camera to mimic some of those effects that SLR cameras can capture. I am now working on getting a SLR camera so that I can capture some better quality images. I would like to be able to get one soon so I am able to take pictures of my sister for her High School Senior Pictures.

Caryn Esplin taught that life without images is a boring life. Visual communication is the fasted growing method of communication. Visual design includes; web design, photography, videography and Adobe Suite Programs. All visual design is used for communication. It is best to have a versatile skill set in the communications industry and in the visual communication field, I feel that I have become and have yet to become very well-rounded in the visual communications field considering my experience in the Interior Design program, growing up learning about graphic design from my mom and incorporating graphic design in the majority of my schooling, and my love for photography. I also enjoy critiquing others work.

Students who graduated have said that the #1 skill they felt they needed to have more experience in was visual media and then writing.

Infographics is when data is displayed in a visual way, this is the most shared method of communication. Pinterest is a great example of infographics, it can create information that may seem boring in an interesting way.

Visual Media has an E-S-V Factor which stands for Efficient, skilled and versatile. We need to make sure each of our visual projects create the E-S-V factor.

Esplin created a blog for to showcase her students photography. http://www.byuideanspics.com/ There are many great portraits, I love the panoramic shots and there were a few interesting pieces of furniture. I would love to do photography for Interior Design magazines or catalogs, maybe I can incorporate that as part of my goal of being an Event Manager at an Interior Design Market show.

It’s a good idea to create a photography portfolio that anyone can easily access. When I get a better camera I will further showcase my photo capabilities for now I will have just have to showcase a few I took with a little point and shoot camera. I have learned over the course of my studies that competition is a great way to get your name out there. My senior year of High School I designed a new formal dress out of an old wedding dress (well not that old) although I did not win the competition I was involved in (FCCLA STAR Events, Recycle and Redesign), I still got my name out there and people knew me as the girl who designed that awesome dress, people were viewing me as an extremely talented individual. As you can see there were some drastic changes made to the dress, I took this dress in 10 sizes with the help of my marvelous teacher! The Design of the dress was all my idea! Students use this website, http://www.byuiphotographics.org/ to showcase their work in a competitive way, student photographers compete against each other to determine who will be showcased and rewarded on their website. Take every competition opportunity you get!

Photoshop is a great program! I have been familiar with Photoshop since I was very young. http://photoshopworld.com/ This website shows seminars, Photoshop professionals, learning opportunities and Photoshop events. There are some Mega Events with Photoshop, I would love to be in on these design events, I think I just want to do everything! I want to incorporate all my abilities and interests into my career, which most of my abilities and interests evolved around the planning process and design so I think I can get something figured out!

Here is some of my own photography, keep in mind I do not own a SLR Camera nor were any of these used with an SLR Camera. I still am dreaming of getting my own camera of professional quality.
