Job Searching as a Soon-To-Be Graduate...

Mar 21, 2016 by

18 days! 18 Days until I become a college graduate! It is both the most stressful and most exciting point in my life thus far. I’m excited for endless opportunities for jobs, new places to live, hopefully an apartment to myself in the near future and big girl money. The scary part is I have to wait 18 days and hope it all works out. I can not have most of what I want now, I have to wait. I started job hunting about two months ago. Originally I just began by looking for jobs that directly correlated with what I wanted to do. I want to be an event manager, so I was only looking for jobs that involved events. I found quite a few and applied to a lot of companies I...

Etsy and Senior Showcase

Mar 19, 2016 by

This week I had my Senior Showcase. All BYU-Idaho students are required to create a project and show it off at Senior Showcase before graduation. I am happy to say, the project was a success and that I felt confident presenting my senior project. My family and I have made these crazy doodle designs for as long as I can remember. My mom and I have talked about making our designs into fabric design, duvet covers, t-shirts and bags for a few years now. So far I have only been able to figure out T-Shirts and bags. I collected designs from my mom and sisters, fixed those designs up in Illustrator and Photoshop and made them look ready for print. I researched printing costs, but to print in a shop is really expensive...

My Real Life PR

Mar 12, 2016 by

I have been in the Communication department for about 3-3.5 years now. In that time I have had opportunities to perform PR for real companies but they are usually short-term and I don’t always see the results of the campaigns carried out. It has been about a year since I started working for Fremont School District as a PR Specialist. The job was a little intimidating because no one really taught me what to do. I just needed to improve the PR for the school district. We received minimal press recognition and had slow social media traffic when I started. For me it was very exciting to see my name in the paper, with a picture I took, the article I wrote and a “big girl” job title. Marisa Reeves/PR specialist. I remember appearing...

Your Cup of Tea

Oct 22, 2015 by

This week, in my Vector Graphics class I was assigned to design a website in Illustrator using Vector Graphics from my last assignment.   Sketches: I sketched out ideas of how my website should look using a wireframe layout.       Then I choose two of my sketches and made them into Illustrator wireframes. Designing in Illustrator: After I completed my sketches, I choose a theme for my website. I decided I wanted to go with a tea cup shop. I decided none of my sketches really worked with the theme I chose so I went with an infinite scrolling design. I used the outline of my cups as navigation icons. I used the same fonts as my last tea cup project to create a sense of harmony. My designs were relatively simplistic...

Teacups

Oct 8, 2015 by

The Project:  For my Vector Graphics class this semester we were required to design icons. I choose to design teacups since I have a small collection of them. My designs were inspired by seven of my own teacups and teacups I found on Pinterest. I wanted each cup to be different from each other. Some seem much different than others.   The Process-Sketching:  I began the process by sketching the seven teacups I had on display at a very small scale as you can see:   After I got an idea as to what I was doing I sketched twelve final teacups: I then took six of my designs to the next level with Illustrator: After I worked out some kinks with the first six, I added six more. I struggled to get the...

Dresses to Impress

My most popular post from designersvoyage.com and my previous blog address, designersvoyage.wordpress.com is “Capturing Life Through Images” http://designersvoyage.com/2013/03/23/capturing-life-through-images/ the post was made when I took my Intro to Communications course, or Comm 100. I was assigned at that time to write about what I learned in class and apply it to myself. I had a small section in this post that discussed how I created a prom dress out of a wedding dress. This post has gotten the most “Repins”, I’ve gotten attention from professionals and amateurs that share that same love of design I have. I love seeing others appreciate the hard work I have performed. I would like to say thank you to those who have shared my love for design, who have helped me get my name out in this world. I have...

Tips on Photographing Children

Mar 27, 2014 by

One of my last assignments for my Digital imaging class was to make a tutorial. This was my very first attempt at making a video that I didn’t just press the record button on and call it good, I know nothing about video editing so it was a little frustrating for me. I chose to do my tutorial video on photographing children because I have experience with it and expect that I will have more experience with child photography in the future, I did some research but mostly I came up with the idea on my own. This is applicable to anyone who will ever take a picture of a child, which lets face it most of us will. Click here for the PDF document: TutorialPDF   Photos included in the video and the PDF...

Keep it Herbal

We love tea and want to give it a positive image, not all teas are against the Word of Wisdom so we shouldn’t be shunned when we tell people that we love tea.  Students, how many of you would be interested if we started selling tea to university students? -Marisa Faye Reeves  ...

Fall 2013 Portfolio-Visual Media...

Dec 14, 2013 by

This was my final project for my visual media class, we were to create a portfolio from all the projects we created this semester. Portfolio by RisaFaye3 Project Corrections/Time spent: I spent several hours correcting the brochure project I lost count of how many. It was over 4 for sure. The layout of the In-Design document itself probably took about 3 hours. Top 3 things learned in this course: 1) Some HTML 2) How to design in Word 3) Just different ways of doing things, how to be more effective and time savvy in certain programs. I have worked with the majority of these programs for a long time but I am always learning new ways to perform design work. Future application of Visual Media: I will continue to use these programs forever to enhance myself...

Eye-glances are directed toward the feet. I think to myself, “oh cute boots” but this would be an inappropriate time to make such a compliment. Is it Your Work?

Plagiarism is unoriginal, unethical and will never enhance your creative abilities. Even if you use plagiarism to get yourself a great job, I guarantee there will be a time where you will not be able to use someone elses work, you will be looked down upon when others notice the quality of “Your” work has gone down or your style differs from what you have previously presented. Shane Cole taught that Ethics is what is morally good and morally bad. The idea of plagiarism was brought to pass in 1716 when Facts, Ideas and names are being copied without permission. Queen Anne had a Law that a work belonged to the author for 14 years after they had produced their work. copyrighting is how we can prevent plagiarism. A copyright is any original work...
