Six Leads

For my Communications Writing class I was assigned to write six leads from the following two attachments:

The Associated Press-A train headed for Barstow, Calif. Derailed sixteen of the 89 cars on the train stopping railroad traffic in and out of Southern California early Wednesday morning.

 

The Skokie (III) Review-A fire started by a cigarette was reported after 7 p.m. Friday night on Lawler Avenue in Skokie causing $50,000 of damage.

 

San Francisco Examiner-Winter Storms occurred on Thursday morning in Northern California endangering the community with icy roadways and mudslides that threaten local drivers

 

New York Times- Local disc jockey was shot in the arm after refusing to give up his wallet, he has been reported as being in stable condition and is scheduled for surgery.

 

Chicago Tribune- School was let out early Friday at Farragut Career Academy High School in Chicago after three students were hospitalized from a gang-related fistfight, as a result 20 students were arrested and charged.

 

Indiana Daily Student-  Seventeen days until Christmas, and the Salvation Army is $11,000 short in their efforts to raise money for the needy than they were the same time last year, the two busiest shopping centers in Fort Wayne have been excluded in this campaign.
